Great Lakeland Challenge!

... and the real training gets underway

The Great Lakeland Challenge takes place every year in September and is in aid of Wooden Spoon, a rugby charity that raises money and runs programmes for underprivileged children. Teams take part in an event that challenges them to paddle the length of England's longest lake, cycle England's steepest pass and conquer England's highest peak and all in less than 12 hours!

Rationale for entering the event

Emmaus is founded upon the principle of helping those most in need and by competing in this challenge we hope to raise over £4,000 for Wooden Spoon and help fund the programmes they run throughout the UK helping disadvantaged children and young people.

The GLC is a tough challenge which will demand a lot of physical and mental strength from our team(s) and will involve a real commitment to reaching high levels of fitness and learning new skills. Foremost in the thinking behind taking on this challenge is a desire to adopt a new and more ambitious approach to the work we do with Companions who struggle with the long journey of recovery from addiction and the mental health issues and stand in the way of them reaching their true potential and finding their place in society.
